Weaver Eye Care Associates is a multi-location private optometry practice in Berks County, PA. We are looking for an OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT/TECHNICIAN to assist the optometrist and other staff with patient work-up, diagnostic testing and other work-related tasks. The ophthalmic assistant/technician will work directly with patients to gather as much information about the patient’s problems or diagnoses. To be successful in this position, you must be willing to travel between offices, have reliable transportation, and be invested in delivering an outstanding patient experience.
We are looking for a candidate to work 4 days/week, approximately 30-32 hours, alternating between our Bernville, PA and Kutztown, PA locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet and prepare patients for the doctor by gathering pertinent information, including: chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, medications and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines
Conducting patient screening and testing, including: auto-refraction, auto-lensometry, visual acuity assessment, pinhole testing, confrontational visual field testing, extraocular motilities, pupil evaluation, Goldman tonometry, angle assessment, pupillary dilation, and any other patient services as requested by the doctor including special tests such as color vision screening, stereopsis, dry eye testing, etc.
Perform specialized testing, including: visual fields, keratometry, meibography, anterior segment and retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT), RETeval, etc.
Facilitate in dry eye management, patient education and workflow, assisting in punctal plugs, meibomian gland expression, blepharoexfoliation, amniotic membranes, etc.
Educating patients on their diagnoses and/or treatment plans
Conducting various diagnostic tests according to the doctors’ instructions
Documenting accurate patient information in the practice’s electronic medical records system
Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart, also handle prior authorizations
Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, ensure exam rooms are clean and orderly
Assist with fitting contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lenses
Assisting other staff members in optical and front desk duties when necessary
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience as an ophthalmic or optometric technician is preferred, looking for 1-3+ years of ophthalmic assistant/technician experience at an Optometry or Ophthalmology office
Strong communication, teamwork, time management and interpersonal skills
Excellent customer service skills
Detail oriented
Ability to multitask and work efficiently
Proficient with technology and computers; experience with electronic medical records (we use Revolution EHR)
A team-player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
