Not silkies! These are true cochin bantams with the gene for silkied feathering. The silkied feathering gene, called “hookless” by the geneticists, is malfunction in a single gene that has occurred multiple times thoughout history. The story with these is that is was a gene mutation in a population of pure cochin bantams. I have no proof that is true, but if someone used a silkie to get the gene, they put in a lot of work to remove all the silkie genes that are not in cochins (dark skin, walnut combs, 5 toes, crests, beards, etc).
These are excellent pets, like all cochins. They need protection from inclement weather, like silkies. They are much easier to sex when young because of their single combs. They are primarily buff, but have some variation with black markings on some of them.
Chicks are about 6 weeks old and are now sexable!
Cockerel (male) chicks are $5 each
Pullet (female) chicks are $20 each.
